Parts.Cat.com

Parts.Cat.com is a website redesign to help small business owners get faster access to original Cat parts. Knowing that users usually “google” the part they are looking for, we built the shopping experience around a potent Search tool, which leads into the site and aids in its navigation. In addition, when users inform their equipment through its serial code, the site can ensure fit of each part, or suggest an appropriate part. Since Cat parts are available both online and through resellers, we proposed a shopping experience that lets users choose the fastest way to get the part and the job done. Working in batch deliverables, UX and UI developed solutions in tandem to meet the needs of different user flows in a consistent manner throughout the experience.

We considered that users normally search for a missing part on the web. This behavior leads to several different entry points into a part product page.

This is an example of a user flow to search for an equipment part. Based on the equipment model number, the search engine suggests related results in multiple categories.

In this flow, the user adds equipment. This allows the site to confirm compatibility and suggest additional parts and supplies. The user can also create a collection of equipment and track purchases for each machine.

Since Cat parts are sold primarily through resellers, the shopping function allows the user to choose the nearest pick up option. Parts may also be shipped from the Cat global warehouse. Both modalities can be combined within the same purchase flow.

The check out flow shows both Pick Up and Delivery options. It prompts the user to create an account and save equipment information for future purchases. Parts.Cat.com stores information about each equipment, allowing the user to keep track of maintenance and replacement parts for each piece of equipment owned.

Supporting emails document actions the user has taken on the site.
